| The HDG Process

Here at HDG we bid our projects at our standard hourly rate and define the projects in detail to give you the client a clear picture of the number of hours that will be dedicated to the project and what those hours are being allocated to.
Our proposal to you will include a hourly/cost breakdown of the services we are offering, a preliminary schedule with milestones, and our standard contract agreement. We like to meet with you face-to-face for the signing so that any final questions can be resolved quickly. A payment for half of the total job is due prior to the design phase.
Design Phase
A preliminary design can take a few days or a few weeks, depending on the complexity of the job and the number of pieces involved. Our proposals include a time estimate for how long each phase will take.
Writing Phase
HDG can provide writing and editing services for interested customers. If you choose to hire HDG to write your copy, this work will start at the same time as the design phase. Initial drafts are usually sent as Word files via e-mail for your comments and approval.
Review Phase
At this phase one to three design concepts will be submitted for your review, input and approval. While the amount of detail and polish depends largely on your needs, the concepts are normally rough and don't include the final copy, except perhaps major headlines. If the project is complex, such as an annual report for example, HDG will only complete a partial design including covers and an inside spread. If it becomes necessary to revise the design and present another round of concepts, the schedule may need to be revised as well.
Production Phase
Once you approve a design and sign off on the copy (if applicable), we produce the final piece(s). We provide full-color paper proofs in person or by FedEx or we can also email you a PDF file. PDF files are particularly well suited for more simple pieces or projects where the design does not change much, such as direct mail or newsletters for example.
Approval Phase
Once you approve your design and upon final payment of the design production balance, we provide all the artwork to the selected print vendor for production. Printers are third-party vendors and we require a pre-payment of half the print production cost to begin the final production
